NightChurch News 10 Nov

THIS WEEK @ NIGHTCHURCH: We continue our series on Philippians, with Paul Pallot preaching on Philippians 3 – ‘Right-Living in Christ’. We will also hear from Warwick & Natalie Short about their work with SIM in Niger. Mary-Anne Philip is leading the service, Kate Steel and Mat Hunter are organising the music team, Jono Newmarch will lead in prayer, Paul Pallot is convening, Phil Prior and Jono Davenport are on audio/data, and Ella Henry and Katie Adams are providing supper. Thanks everyone.

CHURCH GATHERING: Sunday 17 November at 4.30pm in the hall. Please plan to be there so we can pray, share and discern what God is doing among us, and share a meal together. Our main items of business will be pastoral reports, a report from the Family ministry review group, finance report, and an update from the Diaconate.

TRIVIA NIGHT: On Thursday 21 November from 7.30pm to 10pm, NightChurch will be hosting a Trivia Night in the church hall! Come along and join a table for just $10 per person, or organise your own table of 8 for $70. Invite some friends, bring your A-game, get competitive or just have a fun relaxed evening together. Basic supper will be provided, but feel free to bring something more gourmet for your table to enjoy if that’s how you roll. For more information or to pre-book, please contact Paul Pallot or Luke and Romona Boswell. FB event: http://tinyurl.com/q5wzxc7.

PING PONG-A-THON 2013: We’re trying to get 300 Aussie blokes involved this year to raise $100,000 to help change the lives of some of the most exploited young people on the planet.  Would love you to get involved at one of our three Melbourne venues (Blackburn, Werribee or Cheltenham). If you can’t participate, please consider ‘liking’ our FB page and sharing a status update about the event to help create a bit of online buzz about the event. PRAYER: There is prayer at the back of the church at 6.30 every Sunday night. We’d love you to join with us in this important ministry!

WEBSITE OF THE WEEK: This week I thought I’d feature two documentaries; The Most Hated Family in America http://tinyurl.com/m64pc9 and the follow-up documentary America’s Most Hated Family in Crisis http://tinyurl.com/658ub6x. These documentaries are about the controversial Westboro Baptist Church in the USA. Both documentaries demonstrate the unfortunate results that can occur when passages from the Bible are taken out of context or interpreted incorrectly. WARNING: Both documentaries contain controversial content, some graphic descriptions and occasional strong language.

That’s all for this edition of NightChurch News – Steve Pattison.
