NightChurch News, 11 October

This Week @ NightChurch

We are starting our new series ‘Fruitfulness on the Frontline’. Nicholas Tuohy is bringing us the message, Grace Wi is leading the service, Stefan van Boxtel is organising the music team, Zach Moore and Tim Mitchell are on audio/data, Jane Horton will lead in prayer, Marny Croot and Sarah Powys will be providing supper, Marny Croot and Simon Pickering will be available for prayer after the service, and Rachael Atkinson is convening. Thanks everyone.

This Sunday after NightChurch, ROX Café is again opening its doors for us to enjoy some of Louie’s finest food at reasonable prices. So from about 7:30pm, make the short walk in the balmy spring air to 246 High Street with others from NightChurch to continue conversation and fellowship together over dinner. In the words of “Alison” from Urban Spoon: “Good wholesome food with friendly service. Nothing fancy but that’s ok.” See you there!

Syrian Refugee Crisis

Last Sunday night we showed a video during the service about the current refugee crisis. For those who missed it, or would like to watch it again, you can do so here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvOnXh3NN9w. Please pray, and give financially as God prompts you, for the people of Syria and the Middle East fleeing the carnage and destruction of their homelands. As a church we are going to work with BaptCare in whatever ways we can to support and share in the helping of the 12,000 Syrian refugees due to arrive in Australia over the next 6-12 months.

Suffering and the God Question: Conference for Believers and Sceptics

Evil and suffering have accompanied humanity for centuries. Does this depressing reality mean that God doesn’t exist? Or that, if he exists, he is a cruel God? “The problem of evil and suffering” is an enormous barrier to belief and the cause of many doubts, even for those who have faith in God. This conference invites you to attend two major events where these problems will be tackled head on:

  • Friday 9 October, 7-9pm: A lecture and conversation with Dr John Dickson, moderated by award-winning investigative journalist, Rafael Epstein (Melbourne City Conference Centre, Swanston St)
  • Saturday 10 October, 10am-4pm: A series of Plenary talks by Dr John Dickson followed by workshops in three streams (The Scots’ Church, Collins St)

NEXT: Open Night

Thursday 15 October, 7pm at Whitley College. NEXT is designed for post-high school students and young adults who are in transition between whatever is now and whatever is ‘next’. NEXT develops faith through carefully structured experiences of spirituality, cultural discernment, purposeful living and justice-seeking opportunities. Come along and find out more at this Open Night event.

Mission Prayer Breakfast

We run a weekly Mission Prayer Breakfast on Tuesday mornings, 7-8am in The Lounge (upstairs in the hall). We are serving porridge (delicious!) as part of breakfast – something to warm you up before you face the rest of the day. Don’t miss out! Remember you can also join our 5pm prayer gathering on Sundays before the service in the church building.

Term 4 Roster

The master worship roster for Term 4 is now available to view online: http://kewbaptist.org.au/worship-roster. Please search carefully through the document to find your name wherever it appears and mark the dates in your diary. If you are unable to fulfil one of your roles, please arrange a swap with someone else on the roster, and then advise the church office of the change.

Tithing

A reminder that you can give your offering via direct transfer to the church account.
