NightChurch News 12 August

THIS WEEK OUR SERVICE WILL START AT 7PM: You’ve probably noticed that our services often don’t start until 7.10pm or later. We value the laid back informal atmosphere of NightChurch but we also want to honour our word and start at 7pm. By starting at 7pm we are respecting the preparation that has gone into the service as a whole and we are better accommodating both visitors (who come early), and workers and young families (who can’t stay too late). So make sure you come at 7pm this week – you never know what you might miss!

THIS SUNDAY: Jono Newmarch is leading the service and Nicholas Tuohy will be speaking on ‘Holy Spirit in the Ministry of Jesus’. Corey Leslie is organising the music team, Steph Ward will lead in prayer, Phil Prior and James Hayes are on audio/data, Nic Barclay and Sarah Vosti are providing supper, and Corey Leslie is convening. Thanks everyone.

CHANGES TO EMAIL: As many of the same people are on both the weekly prayer and bulletin email lists, we are now combining these into one email which is sent out on Thursdays. We are also starting a new “Prayer Alert” email list for sending out more immediate requests that come in from people. If you would like to receive these alerts, or if you would like to opt out of the weekly bulletin/prayer email, please advise the church office (info@kewbaptist.net.au).

HOSPITALITY LUNCHES will be held on Sunday 9 September, so we’d love 15-18 people or couples to offer to host a lunch, in their home, or even in a park or restaurant.  Everyone will be invited to attend and contribute to one of these lunches. This is a great way to get to know others at KBC.  If you can host a group, contact Deirdre Willis or Laura Holley. Please also let us know if you will be away or unable to take part.

AUDIO/DATA TEAM is looking to recruit more members! If you want to get involved with the tech side of NightChurch, please speak to Phil Prior or Amy Williams.

HOLY SPIRIT SERIES: Here are a few books that might be helpful as we work through our series on the Holy Spirit:

  • ‘Forgotten God’ by Francis Chan
  • ‘Spirit Rising: Tapping into the Power of the Holy Spirit’ by Jim Cymbala
  • ‘Word + Spirit = Power’ by R.T. Kendall, Charles Carrin, Jack Taylor
  • ‘Engaging with the Holy Spirit’ by Graham Cole
  • ‘Discovering the Holy Spirit in the New Testament’ by Keith Warrington

‘Forgotten God’ and ‘Discovering the Holy Spirit in the New Testament’ are both available from the church for just $10 and $5 respectively. See Laura Holley on Sunday night to get your copies!

ACCOMMODATION NEEDED: Early Childhood student, preferably in a female share-house. Please contact Deirdre Willis.

WEBSITE OF THE WEEK: The Red Letter Christians home page at www.redletterchristians.org has a large collection of articles written by Christian authors who try to follow Jesus and take his words seriously in the way they live their lives.
