NightChurch News, 13 April

THIS WEEK @ NIGHTCHURCH: We continue our Gen-Ex series with Nicholas Tuohy preaching on ‘The Passover and Escape from Slavery’. We will also share in communion together. Laura Baker is leading the service, Dave Powys is organising the music team, Zach Moore and Lachlan Hogan are on audio/data, Jane Horton will lead in prayer, Cecelia Tyler and Dave Powys will be praying up the back, Laura Baker will be providing supper, and Caitlyn Pryse is convening. Thanks everyone.

LOVE ABBOTSFORD: Saturday 12 April, 11am-5pm. Love Abbotsford is back for 2014! This is an opportunity for us to show love to the young people and families at the Collingwood Housing Estates on Hoddle Street. We head into the Estates’ grounds and run a fun day of sports (basketball, soccer, Frisbee), children’s activities, host a free BBQ and provide live music for the residents and neighbours to enjoy! To make the event happen, we need lots of volunteers from Kew to come along and help out. If you’d like to be involved, sign up on the Facebook event (https://www.facebook.com/events/264361033741214), or speak to Paul Pallot. Let’s try to make this our biggest Love Abbotsford event yet!

WELCOME TO MY PLACE: On Tuesday 15 April at 7:30pm, a group will be meeting in the Hall (two doors down from the Church) to discuss Welcome To My Place For Dinner. What is Welcome To My Place For Dinner, you ask?! It is a fantastic initiative run by World Vision where churches all around Australia get members from their congregations to invite refugees into their homes to share a meal during Refugee Week in June. We are super excited about the initiative and we would love to have as many people as we can from our congregation get involved. Contact Laura Baker to express your interest.

EASTER WEEK @ KBC: There’s a lot happening at KBC for Easter:

  • Mon 14 Apr – Fri 18 Apr, 6:30-7am – Daily prayer vigil around the cross of Jesus
  • Wed 16 Apr, 7:30pm – Melbourne Singers performing ‘The Crucifixion’ (Stainer)
  • Thu 17 Apr, 7:30pm – Candlelight Maundy Thursday Reflective Service
  • Fri 18 Apr, 9:30am – Good Friday Service
  • Sun 20 Apr, 10am & 5:30pm – Easter Sunday Services

KBC COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP NIGHT: Tuesday 29 April, 7:30-9:30pm in the hall (changed from 15 May). We are pleased to have a special guest presenter on the night who has been brought over from the UK by the Baptist Union for a number of events. Paul Griffiths is a member of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s College of Evangelists. He is the Director of The Ugly Duckling Company, an organisation that exists to create a unique and differentiated approach in and to evangelism. He will be sharing practical and accessible ways of engaging others in sharing our faith in the cultural environment we currently live in. Everyone who leads anything at KBC is encouraged to come, and anyone in the congregation is welcome to come also. One of our aims this year and beyond is to help equip, train and disciple one another and this night is aimed at those goals. Supper provided.

CONGRATULATIONS to James Hayes and Grace Dredge on their recent engagement! We wish you every happiness and blessing at this exciting time.

PRAYER: There is prayer at the back of the church at 5pm every Sunday. We’d love you to join with us in this important ministry!

That’s all for this edition of NightChurch News – Steve Pattison.
