NightChurch News 14 July

THIS WEEK @ NIGHTCHURCH: We conclude our Life with Jesus series with an evening focused on praying for each other. Caz James is leading the service, Jono Newmarch is organising the music team, Mel Hill will lead in prayer, The House is convening, Luke Boswell and James Hayes are on audio/data, and Sarah Vosti and Bec Paterson are providing supper. Thanks everyone.

NIGHTCHURCH ANNIVERSARY: Did you know it’s now ten years since NightChurch first started here at Kew? We thought it might be a good chance to celebrate where we’ve come from and where we are going! So come along to NightChurch on July 21 and invite anyone you know who has been a part of this community. Over the next couple of weeks, take the time to think about what church means to you. If you would like to be involved in the service or have any ideas, please contact Kez, Michelle or Luke. A few specific things:

  • We’re trying to put together a song list that reflects the NC journey – if you have any suggestions (and we’d love to hear why those songs are important to you) – please let us know.
  • We’d love to put together a slide show of the last 10 years – please send us your pics (by Dropbox if you have it, or via email).

KEWMUNITY OF WOMEN: Girls’ group is on this Thursday night, at Laura Baker’s house. This will be a time of discussion and contemplation as we seek to know our identity in God. All girls welcome! Contact Laura Baker if you would like to know more.

RUN MELBOURNE: Steph Pittard is running 21.1km on July 21 to raise money for Anglicare Victoria, as part of the Run Melbourne event. If you would like to support her in this cause, please visit http://runmelbourne.everydayhero.com.au/stephanie_pittard to donate!

LADIES EVENING FELLOWSHIP: Nick Tuohy will be talking about his recent study tour of significant Bible locations at the next Ladies Evening Fellowship meeting.  This will be held in the Hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday July 23.  We have booked the Hall so there is room for lots of extras as we’d love you to join us (not just women!).  Supper included!  Contact Liz Pell if you need more info.

LEADING INTO THE FUTURE: A free event for all who want to hear God better and be a more positive influence in the world where we live. Featuring international author and speaker Ian Coffey. Thursday 25 July, 9.30am-4pm at Syndal Baptist Church. Some of the questions that will be tackled: What makes a Christian leader? How do I know the will of God? What is transformational leadership? Is God speaking and am I listening?

MENTORING INFO/TRAINING SESSION: One vitally important and emerging opportunity at KBC is that of mentoring. The Ministry Team has been working towards finding ways to involve the church community in this endeavour. We now have a number of young adults who have expressed interest in being mentored, as well as people who are happy to be a mentor. In order to facilitate this, we are holding a Mentoring Info/Training Session for those signed up to mentor and those interested. It will be straight after morning church from 12-1:30pm in the Ministry Centre. Following on from this we will let you know about a professional mentoring training evening in August. Please let Laura Baker or Nicholas Tuohy know if you can come on the 28th.

SHUT UP & LISTEN: How can we maintain a relationship with God in an age of noise? Shut Up & Listen is a five-week series running on Thursday nights in August, providing a space for young adults to come together and discover how Christian Spirituality can deepen their relationship with God. The sessions run from 7-9pm at Ashburton Baptist Church, the cost is $35 for the series or $10 per night.

  • August 1: Doing/Being (Roslyn Wright)
  • August 8: Speed/Slow (Simon Holt)
  • August 15: Head/Heart (Mark Payne)
  • August 22: Noise/Quiet (Peter Bentley)
  • August 29: Consume/Create (Ann Lock & Narelle Stephens)
