NightChurch News, 15 February

THIS WEEK @ NIGHTCHURCH: We will continue with our ‘NightChurch Summit’ – an opportunity to share hopes/dreams/concerns for NightChurch and to intentionally seek God’s direction and purpose. There will be time for discussion and prayer together in groups – here are some points to prayerfully consider over the coming days:

  • What is our sense of what God is doing and saying among us?
  • What are the challenges/issues that may be hindering us?
  • What opportunities/possibilities are before us?

Jadon Dutra is leading the service, Stefan van Boxtel is organising the music team, Phil Prior is on audio/data, Coby Docking will lead in prayer, Zach Moore will be providing supper, and Janine Hindle is convening. Thanks everyone.

PRAYER BREAKFASTS: Flowing out of our Week of Prayer, there will now be a weekly Prayer Breakfast on Tuesday mornings, 7-8am in The Lounge (upstairs in the hall). Put it in your schedule and start the day with worship, prayer, food and friends at KBC.

RES WORKING BEE: SPREAD THE LOVE this Valentine’s Day at the annual Res Working Bee, Saturday 14 February from 8:30am to 12pm. This year we are having a special “outside” focus so jobs will include planting and mulching in the garden, window washing and re-painting the car park lines. Please bring along any tools you have that would be useful. In return, you will definitely feel the love AND we will provide a delicious morning tea! If anyone’s skills are better in the kitchen than garden and they would like to contribute items for morning tea, please let Anouchka know.

QUARTERLY CHURCH GATHERING: Sunday 15 February, 11:15am in the hall. We will join together to pray, discuss and discern the leading of the Holy Spirit for our church, and share food together. Please plan to be there.

ROX CAFÉ: On Sunday 22 Feb (next week, not this Sunday!) straight after NightChurch, you are invited to head down the street to ROX café (245 High Street, Kew) for dinner! For those of you unfamiliar with the phenomenon that is ROX, this “modern Kew café with the darker, more relaxed feel of Fitzroy” (“The Oracle”, Urban Spoon) opens its doors for dinner just for us, one Sunday night per month, so that we can continue to enjoy time together after church and not go hungry. This month, head chef Louie is preparing burgers and parmas, all at low prices to suit even a student budget. It’s only a 5 minute walk from church, so put it in the diary, and come and enjoy a nice relaxed dinner together. In the words of “Teresa Ryan”, Urban Spoon – the food is “absolutely delicious and well-priced for the quality.” High praise indeed.

KEW STUDENT RESIDENCE – OPENING SOON! The Kew Student Residence is a 50 bed hostel out the back of Kew Baptist Church, which provides year-long accommodation for tertiary students from out of Melbourne, and it will be opening again soon! On Sunday 22 February 2015 the new students will arrive, along with a number of returning students from 2014. On 22 Feb, you are all welcome to join a BBQ lunch in the hall at 12:15pm, followed by a special service held in the church at 1:15pm. If you’re keen to meet the new students, welcome back last year’s returning students, or just learn more about the ministry of the Residence, please come along. NightChurch will still be running at the normal time (5:30pm) as well on Sunday 22 Feb.

TITHING: A reminder that you can give your weekly offering via direct debit to the church account.

That’s all for this edition of NightChurch News – Steve Pattison.
