There will also be a commissioning for the new Student Res managers, Stephen and Anouchka Chatelier. Tom Tuena is organising the music team, Coby Docking will lead in prayer, Paul Pallot is convening, Zach Moore and Jadon Dutra are on audio/data, and Katie Adams is providing supper. Thanks everyone.

GUEST SPEAKER: This week at NightChurch we will hear from guest speaker Rev Justus Miwanda. Justus is the Director of International Needs Uganda. He is a qualified teacher and has studied health, administration and theology. As an ordained Anglican Minister and co-pastor of a small church in the Kampala slums, Justus is an engaging speaker. He has an amazing story to share of how he and his team are doing their part to change the world.

INDUCTION: This Sunday morning there will be a special induction for our new Associate Pastor Wendy Henry as part of the 10am worship service. Please come along and support her as she commences her ministry here at Kew.

RES COMMENCEMENT SERVICE: The Student Res officially opens for the year on Sunday24 February, with a Welcome BBQ Lunch at 12pm followed by the Commencement Service at 1pm. This is an opportunity for the church to welcome the students and their families into the community, so it would be great to have a strong NightChurch contingent there to be a part of it! If you are coming for the lunch, please bring a salad. Also note that there is no 10am service on that day. The NightChurch service will be at 7pm as usual.

LENT: People around the world will celebrate Jesus’ resurrection on Sunday 31 March. In the weeks leading up to Easter, many individuals put intentional practices in place to focus on the nature and meaning of Christ’s sacrifice. This year Lent begins on Wednesday 13 February. If you are interested in using a daily devotional for the Lent season, there is a study booklet available for free from the church called ‘Walking With The Prophets Through Lent’ – a collection of daily personal readings for the duration of Lent. Alternatively, you may be interested in downloading YouVersion The Bible App on your smartphone, which has a number of Lent plans available:

  • Lent for Everyone includes a daily reading from the book of Matthew and a devotional from noted Bible scholar N.T. Wright (53 days)
  • Devotions for Lent offers daily devotionals and Scripture readings that focus on Christ (46 days)
  • 40 Days of Lent takes you through all four Gospel accounts of Jesus’ last week of earthly ministry (47 days)

THANKYOU: From Stephen & Anouchka Chatelier: “We would like to thank everyone who participated in the Res Working Bee on Saturday 9 February.  It was amazing to see how much was accomplished with everyone working together!  Every job completed, whether big or small, has helped make the place more inviting and home-like for the students. With only a week before they arrive, there is no way we could have ensured the place would be ready without your help. Your support of the ministry here is much appreciated. We are truly grateful.”
