THIS WEEK @ NIGHTCHURCH: The NightChurch ten year celebration is this Sunday! We hope you can all come along. We will kick off the celebration with dinner together at 5.30pm in the hall. Please RSVP to Kez Pell if you’re coming or if you can bring a salad or dessert to help out. Then at 7pm (that’s Australian Eastern Standard Time, not NightChurch Standard Time) we’ll have a celebration service at church. Please invite anyone who you know who has come to NightChurch in the last 10 years – we hope this will be a great time to celebrate what God has been doing through the NightChurch community!
Geoff Trevaskis will be preaching, Jacob Taylor and Timothy Mitchell are on audio/data, Mary-Anne Philip, Sarah Vosti and Natalie Constantin are providing supper, and Mel Hill is convening. Thanks everyone.
CAMP PAYMENTS: Thanks to all those who came along to church camp last weekend! If you haven’t paid yet, please make sure you transfer the money this week.
WORSHIP ROSTER: The Term 3 Worship Roster is now available: https://kewbaptist.org.au/worship-roster. Please check carefully to see when you are rostered on and mark the dates in your calendar. If you are unable to fulfill one of your roles, please arrange a swap with someone else on the roster, and then advise the church office of the change.
RUN MELBOURNE: Steph Pittard is running 21.1km on July 21 to raise money for Anglicare Victoria, as part of the Run Melbourne event. If you would like to support her in this cause, please donate at the following link: http://runmelbourne.everydayhero.com.au/stephanie_pittard.
INTERSERVE OPEN NIGHT: On Sunday night we heard from John & Janine Barclay about their work at Hebron International School in India. This Friday night (July 19) they will be hosting an open night at the church hall from 7.30-9.30pm – so if you’re interested in finding out more about Hebron and Interserve, please come along!
LADIES EVENING FELLOWSHIP: Amanda Tuohy will be talking about her and Nick’s recent travels through Bible lands. This will be held on Tuesday 23 July at 7.30pm – we have booked the church hall so there is room for lots of extras as we’d love you to join us (not just women!). Supper included!
LEADING INTO THE FUTURE: Thursday 25 July, 9.30am-4pm at Syndal Baptist Church. A free event for all who want to hear God better and be a more positive influence in the world where we live. Featuring international author and speaker Ian Coffey. Some of the questions that will be tackled: What makes a Christian leader? How do I know the will of God? What is transformational leadership? Is God speaking and am I listening?
MENTORING INFO/TRAINING SESSION: One vitally important and emerging opportunity at KBC is that of mentoring. The Ministry Team has been working towards finding ways to involve the church community in this endeavour. We now have a number of young adults who have expressed interest in being mentored, as well as people who are happy to be a mentor. In order to facilitate this, we are holding a Mentoring Info/Training Session for those signed up to mentor and those interested. It will be straight after morning church from 12-1.30pm in the Ministry Centre. Following on from this we will let you know about a professional mentoring training evening in August. Please let Laura Baker or Nicholas Tuohy know if you can come on the 28th.
POUR L’AMOUR DU NIGER: Come along to Brunswick St and hear some of Melbourne’s very best local bands and artists. Featuring: Tom Tuena, Iris, and Moon Republic at The Evelyn Hotel, on Brunswick St Fitzroy, Saturday 3 August. All profits from the evening will go to pay for students’ school fees in Niger, West Africa. Our goal is to raise $3,500 to pay school fees for 15 high school students in Niger, who would not be able to afford this education otherwise. So ‘for the love of Niger’, please come and enjoy a night of great music for a great cause!
SHUT UP & LISTEN: How can we maintain a relationship with God in an age of noise? Shut Up & Listen is a five-week series running on Thursday nights in August, providing a space for young adults to come together and discover how Christian Spirituality can deepen their relationship with God. The sessions run from 7-9pm at Ashburton Baptist Church, the cost is $35 for the series or $10 per night.
- August 1: Doing/Being (Roslyn Wright)
- August 8: Speed/Slow (Simon Holt)
- August 15: Head/Heart (Mark Payne)
- August 22: Noise/Quiet (Peter Bentley)

ORGANIC EVANGELISM: How do we serve our communities and share our faith? Come along to the ‘Organic Evangelism’ event and hear from special guest speaker Dennis Pethers on Saturday 3 August, 10am-4pm at Balwyn Baptist Church. Cost $10 (includes lunch), RSVP to email@example.com or 9880 6100.
WEBSITE OF THE WEEK: Many of us are familiar with the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). I found this sermon Making and Unmaking Nobodies written by Nathan Nettleton who is the pastor of South Yarra Baptist gave me some new insights into this parable. Download the MP3 file at http://tinyurl.com/k2ycdjd or read a transcript of the sermon at http://tinyurl.com/k6pat4z.
That’s all for this edition of NightChurch News – Steve Pattison.
